THE CHI-LITES

The Chi-Lites are best known for their two chart-topping R&B smashes, “Oh Girl” and “Have You Seen Her” (both of which were also Top 5 Pop singles, with “Oh Girl” reaching #1), but that’s just scratching the surface of arguably Chicago’s all-time greatest soul vocal group. Between 1969 & 1975, the group previously known as The Hi-Lites and Marshall & The Chi-Lites scored six Top 20 R&B albums for Brunswick, most of them peaking at or near the top of the charts. They continued with several different record labels and lineup changes throughout the decades that followed, but their legacy is based on the classics they released on Brunswick Records during the golden age of classic soul and R&B. Their music has stood the test of time, remaining as vibrant today as it was during their heyday. Tony Soprano spoke fondly about The Chi-Lites on a memorable episode of HBO’s “The Sopranos,” and Beyoncé’s Platinum-selling #1 hit “Crazy In Love” wouldn’t have been the era-defining anthem it became without that recognizable sample of The Chi-Lites’ “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).” Having been inducted into both the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame and The Official R&B Music Hall Of Fame, there’s no denying the timeless appeal of The Chi-Lites, whose music continues to be discovered by new generations of fans.
